Energy efficiency in industry: how to increase it and the latest research in this field

What is meant by energy efficiency?

When we talk about the energy efficiency of a system, we refer to its ability to use the energy supplied to it for the completion of a task. The concept of energy efficiency is applicable to many contexts, but in recent years it has become increasingly associated with industries.

Considering the issue from this point of view, the concept of energy efficiency can be defined as the ratio between the energy supplied to a production plant and the production capacity of the plant itself. The lower the energy used to produce a certain quantity of products, the better the energy efficiency of the plant will be.

The latest research on energy efficiency and industries

Over the years, many regulations have been approved, both nationally and internationally, with the aim of reducing industrial energy waste by encouraging the introduction of efficient solutions, including the latest one on White Certificates.

From what emerges from some recent research, initiatives aimed at increasing the energy efficiency of production processes have begun to bear fruit. The results for 2017, in fact, are extremely positive as regards the commitment of the industries in this field: 3.6 million of the White Certificates issued in the past year (62% of the total) were assigned to activities that work in the industrial field.

Despite the fact that energy consumption increased by 1.5% compared to 2016, the incidence on the total of energy-intensive sectors is lower, another excellent result. In addition, the fact that industry contributed twice as much to the energy improvement as the residential sector, at 20.7%, should not be overlooked.

Interventions in industrial plants

How was it possible to achieve these impressive goals? It all owes its success to companies such as Renovis S.r.l, an Energy Service Company or simply ESCo, certified UNI CEI 11352.

Renovis designs and installs energy saving solutions tailored to each customer. The company has a wide range of activities, including the thermal and electrical sectors; there are also many areas of activity, ranging from the automotive sector to the iron and steel sector (two of the fields in which energy is wasted most).

Thanks to the tailor-made solutions proposed by the Renovis team, companies are guaranteed to be able to increase the energy efficiency of their plant without affecting either the production method or the productivity of the plant.
